Miro Fondrk began his career in the wine industry as a trader, and after several years, in 2008 he founded his own garage winery in southern Slovakia. In 2015, he converted it into a fully-fledged modern winery with its own vineyards. Today, the company produces highly regarded, premium-quality Slovakian wines, including several iconic red cuvées made from international grape varieties. The grapes are selected partly from the estate's vineyards near the villages of Rúbaň and Nová Vieska, and partly from Milan Skovajsa's vineyards in the Lesser Carpathian wine region. Miro Fondrk's Riesling is made with hand-picked grapes from the Rúbaň – Pod malým vrchom vineyard. After harvesting and selecting the berries, fermentation takes place: one-third in stainless steel, one-third in 1000-liter oak barrels, and the remainder in 500-liter oak barrels. The wines then stay on the lees for 6 months before bottling. In the glass, the wine reveals a fragrant and lively character with a floral and fruity aromatic profile that alternates notes of green apple, citrus, and lime blossom, followed by hints of apricot. On the palate, it is juicy, fresh, and fruity, with pronounced acidity and a pleasant, distinctive minerality. The finish is long, persistent, and mouth-watering. Try it with oysters, asparagus, and all seafood.
